Dr. Melissa Spelchen has been entertaining crowds for multiple decades, the product of a band playing father who still plays at the age of 90, a vocalist mother and musically inclined siblings. She honed her skills at various styles of musical performances, as a young vocalist with her older brother Dean accompanying her throughout her home province of Saskatchewan. As a result of being involved with her family church, St. Peter and Paul's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canora, Saskatchewan, she and her brother had their most prestigious performance in 1987 for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip.
After her brother graduated high school and went to college, Melissa taught herself how to play the guitar so she could accompany herself wherever her entertainment would take her. Due to some volleyball talent, she attended university on a scholarship and was able to bring her singing abilities to various parts of North Dakota over 29 plus years.
Dr. Spelchen is the Healthy Youth Community and Social Service Specialist for the Central Regional Education Association, focusing on initiatives that keep kids OUT of the juvenile justice system for Pk-12 schools statewide. Most recently, she created a LLC entitled UP Your Performance, wherein she coordinates musical performance, broadcasts volleyball and provides mental performance coaching to currently, young athletes. In addition, Melissa sings, typically as a solo artist under UP Your Performance, providing a variety of musical stylings from oldies to country to classic rock to folk to pop to whatever she is feeling in the moment. If she knows the song and can play it on guitar or keyboard- she loves to try and sing it in her own unique way, so do not hesitate to request something obsolete! She is also fortunate to know the likes of talented drummers Todd Wyman, Robert Marum and John Spitzer, and various other musicians such as Mike Neff, Kim Whittemore and Kelly Bristow who moonlight with her on occasion.
